Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – August 20, 2022

Combined elements of the military and police conducted a joint operation targeting a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group at Sitio Oval, Barangay Tipo-Tipo Proper, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan on Friday, August 19.

Sensing the approach of the authorities, the target identified as Tawakil Bayali, a.k.a. Jaber immediately fled and managed to escape the operating troops.

While clearing the area, the troops recovered one M79 Grenade Launcher, one 40mm WP ammunition, two rifle grenades, three fragmentary grenades, and 72 rounds of cal .30 ammunition.

Personnel from the 39th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team proceeded to the area, recovered the explosives, and brought them to the 18th Infantry Battalion headquarters for proper disposition.

“We are intensifying our intelligence operations to track down the remaining ASG members. We are also strengthening our collaboration with our partners from the PNP and other security agencies to ensure the successful conduct of law enforcement operations,” Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command said.
