Joint military and police operatives have seized high-powered firearms and ammunition from an Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandit in a law enforcement operation in Luuk, Sulu, a top military official said Thursday.

Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said authorities were
serving a warrant of arrest to Muksidal Jumadil, an ASG bandit, Wednesday in Barangay Kan Mindus, Luuk when the suspect opened fire upon seeing the troops and managed to escape.

Seized from his residence, however, were an M-14 rifle and a .9-mm pistol with ammunition and a bandolier, said Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom).

The search warrant was for the violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

“Your armed forces and other line agencies are working together to sustain our gains in peace and development in this part of the country,” Rosario said.
