Kalinaw News: Abuses, Deception, and Hardships Prompted High-ranking NPAs in Northern Negros to surrender

Posted to Kalinaw News (Jan 19, 2022): Abuses, Deception, and Hardships Prompted High-ranking NPAs in Northern Negros to surrender

SAGAY CITY, Negros Occidental — High-ranking members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) operating in Northern Negros voluntarily surrendered to the 79th Infantry Battalion on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

The surrenderees were alias “Bruno”, a Political Instructor and alias “Mary”, Educational Staff (not their true names), both members of the dismantled Northern Negros Front, Komiteng Rehiyon- Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor, NNF (D), KR-NCBS. They realized and presented themselves citing among others the leadership abuses, hardships in the mountains, loss of confidence in their “cause” and betrayal of their group as major reasons why they decided to free themselves and bravely chose the path to peace. Now, they can live peacefully together with their loved ones, rebuild their lives and recover the opportunities they lost as CTG members for nearly two (2) decades.

The duo is kept in the custody of 79th Infantry (MASALIGAN) Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Philippine Army based in Brgy Bato, Sagay City, Neg Occ and were presented to Brigadier General Inocencio Pasaporte, Commander of the 303rd Brigade in a simple ceremony during his visit at 79IB headquarters on 17 January 2022.

Alias “Bruno” and alias “Mary” averred that the remnants of the dismantled NNF are now in quandary and on the verge of collapse with the death of Kerima Lorena Tariman alias @ Ella and Marilyn Badayos alias @ Monet during separate encounters in Silay City and Manapla in August and October last year. Nonetheless, the CTG is still pushing its recruitment and recovery efforts, especially in the hinterland barangays in the boundaries of Escalante City and Municipalities of Toboso and Calatrava. Similar activities are also being conducted in the far-flung areas of the cities of Silay, Cadiz, and Victorias and in the Municipality of EB Magalona all of Negros Occidental.

“They affirmed the leadership abuses, resentful system and lies of the CTG in propagating false ideologies to the people of Negros. The hardships within the NPA units are already unbearable especially now that the support from their masses is declining. As they experienced these sufferings in the mountains, there will be more of their members who will opt to lie low and surrender; which will subsequently lead towards the downfall of the CTG in Northern Negros”.

“I, therefore, invite the remaining members of the CTG to surrender and lay down their arms; avail of the government programs such as the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and start living a more meaningful life together with their families and loved ones. I also warn the public not to be lured with the propaganda of the NPA. There is no future in joining and supporting their futile cause”, Lt. Col Javines added.

The surrenderees will become members of the Masaligan Former Rebels (FRs) Community for Peace Project where they will undergo the deradicalization program and avail of the benefits, livelihood, and economic packages to enable them to start a new life with the mainstream society.
