Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – December 26, 2021
A notorious leader of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters was neutralized in an encounter in Maguindanao Sunday morning, December 26. According to Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command, troops of the 6th Infantry Battalion engaged in an armed confrontation with members of the BIFF-Karialan Faction.
The encounter that happened in Barangay Ganta, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao, resulted to the death of Zukarno Guilil, a.k.a. Motorola, the 8th Division Commander and Acting Chief of Staff of the Karialan Faction.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Commander of JTF Central confirmed the report and highlighted the professionalism of government forces to perform their mandate of protecting the Filipino people and the role of the communities and the LGUs in providing information about the location of the BIFF personalities. Maj. Gen. Uy vowed to continue hunting down the remnants of the BIFF and Daulah Islamiyah who have been attacking communities in Central Mindanao for almost a decade. “As part of the marching order of President Rodrigo Duterte, we are dedicated to putting an end to these terror groups,” Maj. Gen. Uy said while continuously calling on the remnants of the terror groups to return to the folds of the law and live a peaceful life with their families.
Lt. Col. Charlie Banaag, Commanding Officer of 6IB disclosed that the armed clash erupted when troops of the 6IB cornered the group of Guilil after the residents informed the government forces of their presence in the aforementioned barangay. Recovered from Guilil’s possession were two fragmentation grenades.
Col. Pedro Balisi, Commander of 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade said that the neutralization of alias Motorola gives justice to all victims of atrocities carried out by the BIFF. “The lead given by the residents and the LGUs shows their desire to eliminate the presence of this terror group,” Col. Pedro Balisi added.
Guilil is responsible for various attacks and bombings in Maguindanao. He has several standing warrants of arrest for murder, multiple attempted murders, destructive arson, and violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020. He is also a known IED/Bomb expert of the BIFF.
“The neutralization of one of the pillars of the BIFF is a positive development in the anti-terror campaign of the government in Central Mindanao. It also disrupted the bombing activities in the area,” Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. emphasized.
