Fifty-three former members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) received financial assistance of P10,000 each from the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in Barangay Bual, municipality of Luuk, Sulu on Thursday, November 18.

On the same day, MPOS also held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a bunkhouse with workshop facilities
to give ASG returnees the opportunity to have a sustainable livelihood.

The 4th Marine Brigade volunteered to construct the facility while the ministry's partner, Gagandilan Mindanao Women Inc., conducted a hollow block making livelihood program for the former insurgents.

Peace Program Officer Sittie Janine Gamao said the MPOS was committed to delivering services that would uplift the lives of ASG returnees.

"We in the MPOS would like you to be the guardian of peace in your community," Gamao added.

On the other hand, ASG returnees said they were grateful to the Bangsamoro government for helping them start a new life and for providing the assistance they need.

MPOS also visited Barangay Tukay in Parang, Sulu on Saturday, November 20 to distribute similar financial assistance to 20 more former ASG members.
