Government security forces have killed two New People's Army guerrillas, and seized war materiel in a week's joint law-enforcement operations in Mindanao, the military said Sunday.

In press release, the Philippine Army said a joint law-enforcement operation was undertaken on Friday evening in Barangay Pianing, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.


Also, combined elements of the 65th Infantry Battalion, the 75th Infantry Battalion, the Butuan City Police Office Station 4 (BCPS4) and the Butuan City Mobile Force Company (BCMFC) conducted joint checkpoint operations and confiscated 4,800 pieces of 7.62mm (AK 47) live ammunition, two rifle grenades, and three motorcycles.

Likewise, the operations apprehended three men believed to be NPA couriers identified as Rolando Aque Dagium, 34; Ferdinand Aque Dagium, 27; and Marvin Pepito Merencillo, 26.

The war materiel and the three suspects were brought to BCPS4 for proper disposition and filling of appropriate criminal cases.

On the other hand, an encounter erupted between the troops of the 30th Infantry Battalion under Lt. Col. Ryan Charles Callanta, with more or less 10 NPA members in Sitio Suoton, Barangay Cagdianao, Claver, Surigao del Norte on September 2, resulting in the death of one NPA guerrilla and the and the seizure of of three high-powered firearms and other war materiel.

Maj. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr, commander of 4th Infantry Division confirmed the identity of the slain NPA as alias “Asyong”, the Vice Platoon Commander and Political Officer of SYP Platun, 16C1, Guerilla Front 16, Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

In a 15-minute firefight, government troops killed the said NPA leader and captured two AK47 Rifles, one M14 rifle, one bandolier, two AK47 magazines, seven M14 magazines with ammunition, and assorted medicines.


"We offer our sympathies to the families of the dead NPA. We are saddened every time a fellow Filipino dies because they were deceived by the futile ideology," Brawner was quoted in the press release as saying.

On August 28, 2021, troops of 58IB under the operational control of 402nd Infantry Brigade, 4ID clashed against more or less 10 NPA rebels believed to be armed elements of Sub Regional Sentro De Gravidad (SRSDG) MTJ Eagles of the North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC) in vicinity of Talupa, So. Dumagook, Barangay Lawaan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

A 25-minute gun battle resulted in the seizure of two M16 Rifles, and one M14 Rifle and the death of a communist rebel identified as Aldo Cahinlo Higyawan, 38, alias Ramon, a member of Platoon Ryan, SRC1, NCMRC, and a resident of Purok 1, Barangay San Luis, Malitbog, Bukidnon.


Brawner said, "We offer these victories to our people, who for the longest time have wanted to live peaceful lives in developed communities."
