ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police and military operatives have arrested an Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member allegedly involved in the kidnapping and beheading of a farmer more than 11 years ago in this city, an official said Tuesday.
Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, said Abdulhakim Nasalon, 45, tagged as the most wanted person and a resident of Barangay Muti here, was arrested in a law enforcement operation around 11:30 a.m. Monday in Barangay Curuan.
Ylagan said that Nasalon has a standing warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention with ransom.
Nasalon is also a member of the Ajijul group or the Zamboanga cell of the ASG and was allegedly involved in the 2009 kidnapping of farmer Doroteo Gonzales, a resident of Barangay Buenavista here.
Gonzales was taken to Al-Barka, Basilan province, where the ASG bandits beheaded him after his family failed to pay the ransom of PHP25 million.
Ylagan said Nasalon was placed under the temporary custody of the Zamboanga City Police Office.
