LANTAWAN, Basilan Province – The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist-Basilan (OPAg-Basilan), in partnership with the 16th Special Forces Company, continually promotes food security program through agriculture here in the formerly abandoned community of Barangay Calugusan where they initiated an agri-livelihood training last Friday, 18 December 2020.

Through the food security program of OPAg-Basilan headed by Dr. Khayang Luy Battad, the constituents learned and embraced agriculture as a viable means for sustainable livelihood where they were taught with different methods of vegetable production technology.

Captain Lorefel Judaya, the Commanding Officer of the 16th Special Forces Company, appreciated the eagerness of the constituents in embracing the program, and highly commended the strong partnership of the military and OPAg-Basilan.

“Kami ay sumasaludo sa kasipagan na pinapamalas ng ating mga magsasaka dito sa komunidad. Kasama ang OPAg-Basilan, magtulungan tayo upang mapanatili ang kabuhayan, kapayapaan, at kaunlaran dito sa inyong barangay.”, Captain Judaya expressed.

The barangay of Calugusan in Lantawan Municipality was abandoned by its constituents for more than a decade due to a clan war, or locally known as rido. But now that peace has been brought back thru the Community Support Program of the military, many families are already returning to their homelands.
