Eight members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental have surrendered to authorities over the weekend, a report from the Philippine Army on Monday said.

They were identified as “Ka RR”, Squad 1 member, Sentro de Grabidad (SDG) Platoon, Central Negros 1 operating under the Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor of the Leonardo Panaligan Command-NPA; and Yunit Militia members Romeo Barbaquil alias "Ka Sammy", Allan Alpas Estrada, Marlou E. Estrada, Reynaldo B. Delantes, Mariano C. Libaton alias "Ka Moloy", Arlita P. Jabalde, and Bernaldo V. Besario, alias "Ka Bobby".

The Army's 62nd Infantry Battalion said the rebels surrendered on Sunday to the Guihulngan City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC).


City Mayor Carlo Jorge “Guido” Reyes was present, along with police and military officials and other task force members during the surrender.

Ka RR turned over a .38-caliber revolver with six rounds of live ammunition; Ka Sammy surrendered two .357-caliber revolvers with 11 rounds of live ammunition; and Allan Estrada a .38-caliber revolver with six rounds of live ammunition.

Records show that since August, the number of suspected NPAs who surrendered in Guihulngan City has reached 42.

Lt. Col. Melvin Flores, acting commanding officer of the 62nd IB, was quoted as saying that he appreciated the initiative of the former rebels, noting that this is the outcome of proper information provided to the people and the collaboration among Guihulngan TF-ELCAC members.
