2 suspected NPA rebels nabbed in Himamaylan

From the Visayan Daily Star (Nov 20, 2020): 2 suspected NPA rebels nabbed in Himamaylan

Two suspected members of the New People’s Army were arrested by patrolling troopers of the 94th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Basak, Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental Wednesday.

The Army soldiers were on combat patrol when they chanced upon two armed suspects, who were later alleged to be NPA members, Maj. Romeo Vargas, Himamaylan City police chief, said yesterday.

Nabbed were Joenefer Hermino and Glenn de Baguio, a political guide and member, respectively, of Central Negros 2 (CN2) Squad 3 of the NPA, Vargas said.

Their arrest yielded a fragmentation grenade, two homemade 12 gauge shotguns with 13 live ammunition and five empty cartridges, 23 ammunition for M16 assault rifle, and several rifle parts.

Vargas said the suspects, who are residents of sitios Bugo and Bulasot, in the barangay, tried to escape when they noticed the presence of soldiers. They were later arrested and turned over to the Himamaylan City Police Station.

Both were charged yesterday for illegal possession of firearms and explosives before the Himamaylan City Prosecutor’s Office, the police added.
