MABINI,Pangasinan, Aug. 31 (PIA) - The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), along with other government agencies, led the project launching on Integrated Organic Farming System Program in Barangay Barlo in this western town to address food sustainability and security.

The project is one of the identified interventions of the Poverty Reduction, Employment and Livelihood Cluster (PRLEC) of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) created by Executive Order (EO) 70 which institutionalizes the whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace.

The beneficiaries received livelihood programs, learnings about organic farming, training skills as well as starter kits as part of the government’s help to the indigenous people’s group, former rebels and agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).

In a video message during the program held at the Barlo Integrated School, TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña said the team-up of different agencies aims to address the economic issues of different provinces in the country.

Secretary Lapeña said the country’s problems would not be solved by a military solution alone as the big problems include poverty, unemployment and livelihood, basic necessities, food, education and heath.

“Upang matapos na ang limang dekada ng armed conflict, kailangan nating tugunan ang ugat ng problemang ito. Dalawang estratehiya ng EO 70 ay good governance at paghahatid ng serbisyong gobyerno sa ating kababayan,” Sec. Lapeña said.

This development project of TESDA, he said, aims to fix the value supply chain where consumers and producers will be benefited and make profit from it.

It will provide proper guidelines to address proper organic and poultry farming to make it sustainable, he added.

“Umaasa ako sa araw na ito, sa sabayang launching ng barangay development projects ay simula rin ng ating paglalakbay tungo sa pamayanang mapayapa, maunlad, matatag at masaganang Pilipinas,” the Secretary added.

With this, TESDA Provincial Director Jimmicio Daoaten said scholarship slots for mushroom production and processing, production of organic fertilizer and vegetable, and service motorcycle/small engine systems will be given to 100 beneficiaries.

Mayor Ariel De Guzman showed his full support to this project and expressed his gratitude that his municipality was one of the recipients of this program.
