While conducting combat operations, troops of the 53rd Infantry Battalion encountered the members of Communist Terrorist Group in the boundary of Sitio Tumanong, Barangay Macasing and Sitio Lacnapan Barangay Pange, all of Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte at late afternoon of July 11.
Firefight lasted for ten minutes, after which the enemy withdrew along with their casualties.
"While scouring the encounter site, the troops recovered one caliber .50 rifle (Barrett) with 20 ammunition, one rocket-propelled grenade with two ammunition, one M16 rifle, medical paraphernalia, assorted medicines, propaganda materials and personal belongings," said Col. Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander.
Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander, Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, also lauded the troops for their successive gains.
"I commend the troops of the JTF ZamPeLan for their steadfast courage in fighting against the Communist Terrorists Group and all the challenges posed by the pandemic," said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Commander, Western Mindanao Command.
"On the other hand, I ask our prayer warriors to constantly pray for the safety of our soldiers as they advance towards the enemy strongholds and pursue the remaining terrorists," Lt. Gen. Sobejana added.
