CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. reminisced his days in the 6th Infantry Division (ID) based here during a visit on Friday.

“I learned a lot from this unit because the 6th Infantry Division was my first assignment,” Santos told the 6ID personnel during his “talk to the troops”
as part of his visit at the 6ID headquarters in Barangay Awang of Datu Odin Sinsuat town.

“I grew up here and gained a lot of experiences that prepared me for the challenges I have encountered in my career before I became the AFP chief of staff,”
he added.

Santos served as the assistant division commander of 6ID from July to December 2016 where he gained his first-star rank.

Santos, the 53rd AFP chief of staff, was welcomed by Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, the 6ID commander and chief of Joint Task Force Central (JTFC), and Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.

The visit was highlighted by the presentation of the recently confiscated, captured, surrendered, and recovered firearms of the command and the awarding of military personnel for their significant accomplishments in various fields of operations.

Santos congratulated everyone under Westmincom for their significant accomplishments that contributed to the success of AFP’s campaign against communist insurgents and violent extremists.

He also expressed his gratitude to the men and women of JTFC for their response to the current coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-9) pandemic, which contributed to the high satisfaction rating of AFP nationwide.

Santos, who is set to retire next month, further told the 6ID personnel that the AFP has improved a lot compared to what it was 34 years ago.

The current AFP chief will be leaving the service on August 3, 2020, at the age of 56, the mandatory age of retirement for military servicemen.
