Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan, director of the Western Visayas regional police, said it all started during the conduct of contact-tracing activities and other preventive measures against the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in Cadiz City.
During the operation on Tuesday, soldiers and policemen intercepted a van boarding Gaspar Davao, a resident of Sitio Biernesan in Barangay Pinapugasan in Escalante City.
“The suspect initially called the attention of the PNP personnel for not wearing a face mask and later for unjust vexation and disobedience against the police personnel manning the Municipal Control Points (MCP),” said Pamuspusan.
“In an act to threaten the law enforcers, he drew a fragmented grenade which opted the police to arrest him,” he added.
During a background check, Pamuspusan said they found out that Davao is an identified leader of National Federation of Sugar Workers (NFSW) and Kilusang Mambubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) Negros Chapter.
The 55-year old Davao is known in his alias Aldong. He is currently under the custody of the Cadiz City police.
“Allegedly, he is the White Area Secretary, North Negros Front SECOM TABACCO/ Finance Officer,” said Pamuspusan.
Seized from him were a fragmentation grenade, subversive documents, Newsletter of Roselyn Jean Pelle Command dated March 29, 2020 and other written letters.
Police also confiscated cash amounting to P14, 000, eight cellular phones, and a sling bag.
Pamuspusan said he had already ordered the filing of criminal charges against Davao.
“With the arrest of the alleged top leader, we expect to identify other members of the group thus further aid us as we continue our drive in arresting terrorist groups or persons in Western Visayas,” said Pamuspusan.
PNP Chief Gen. Archie Gamboa lauded the Western Visayas regional police for the accomplishment.
