CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced movements in key positions following the assumption of Lieutenant General Antonio Ramon Lim as the new Deputy Chief of Staff.

LtGen Lim formerly The Inspector General, AFP succeeded Lieutenant General Erickson Gloria in a ceremony held on May 26. The latter was appointed as the new Commander of Western Command in Palawan. He took over the position from Vice Admiral Rene Medina who capped off a successful military career after 38 years.

“Movements in the AFP’s key positions are necessary to ensure the military’s mission effectiveness. The appointments also signify how progressive the careers we have within the military organization,” AFP Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos Jr said.

Meanwhile, Major General Franco Nemecio M. Gacal will take over as the new Inspector General of the AFP. He is the current Commander of the Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division in Eastern Mindanao.

MGen Gacal is a member of the PMA “Maringal” Class of 1988 with expertise in resource management and managerial acumen. He will now lead inspections and research initiatives to better improve the military’s mission effectiveness and operational readiness.

Taking over the 4ID’s command is Major General Andres C. Centino who is also a member of PMA Class ‘88. He will direct the military’s internal security operation combatting Communist Terrorist Groups in Eastern Mindanao, CARAGA and portion of Region 10.

MGen Centino previously led the AFP’s Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, OJ3. He was replaced by Major General Edgardo De Leon who officially assumed as the new J3 in a ceremony held Wednesday, May 27.

MGen De Leon vacated the helm of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, OJ7 which was succeeded by Brigadier General Benedict Arevalo, the former Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Education and Training, AJ8. He will now spearhead initiatives to further increase the growing civilian support to the military.

“The reliefs and designations are integral to and part of the dynamism of the uniformed services. The AFP ensures that it puts the right person on the right job that will carry out our mandate no matter what assignment is put upon their shoulders,” General Santos said.
