The peasants and Lumad masses are bearing the brunt of intensified military operations being conducted by several battalions of the AFP in the Bukidnon province.

Last May 18, AFP combat troops rounded up and arrested almost all residents of Sitio Balaas and Sitio Airburn in Barangay Mabuhay, and Sitio Nabangkal, Barangay Magkalungay in San Fernando, Bukidnon. They are being accused of being members of the NPA.

More than 100 remain detained at the 88th IB headquarters in Maramag, Bukidnon.

A few days earlier, more than 700 residents of Sitio Sta. Rita and Sitio San Roque in Barangay Sinanglanan, Malaybalay City left their homes amid intense military operations being conducted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in their community. On May 14, around 150 families brought along with them their horses, carabaos, cows, pigs, goats and dogs and sought shelter in nearby Sitio Malapgap.

Over the past few weeks, more than 645 troops of the AFP under the 8th, the 88th, 60th and 56th IB have been conducting intense military operations covering Malabayalay City and the towns of San Fernando and Cabanglasan in Bukidnon. There are widespread reports of human rights abuses against peasant and Lumad masses.
