Explosives surrendered

Explosives believed to be left behind by suspected New People’s Army rebels in Brgy. Divina Colonia, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, were surrendered to the police by a resident of the area, police chief, Maj. Antonio Benitez, said yesterday.

Five M-203 grenade launcher ammunition were turned over to the Sagay City Police Station.

Benitez said the surrender of the explosives was a product of their Tokhang campaign Against Ginadumili-an nga Armas.

He reported that 15 other firearms were also surrendered to them, while 11 others were recovered in police operations from January to February this year.

Meanwhile, P/Capt. Wilfredo Benoman reported the arrest of Domar Barsanas on Thursday in Brgy. Pasil, EB Magalona, for illegal possession of firearms.

The apprehension of Barsanas yielded a homemade shotgun with three live ammunition.

A drug suspect identified as Erwin Espora was also nabbed yesterday by the police during a buy-bust operation in Brgy. Antipolo,Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

The apprehension of Espora, 21, yielded five sachets of suspected shabu and P500 in marked money.

Another drug suspect identified as Melchor Maurin is now in jail, after his atrrest Wednesday for a similar offense in Brgy. Balintawak, Escalante City.

The arrest of Maurin, 40, yielded three sachets of suspected shabu and P500 in marked money, police said.*
