NSFA, Panacan, Davao City- Lt. Gen. Felimon T. Santos Jr., Commander Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) has reported to General Noel S. Clement, Chief of Staff Armed Forces of the Philippines (CSAFP) the operational and security updates in Eastern Mindanao as well as the Command’s present Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) effort in the areas affected by the recent series of earthquakes in its Area of Responsibility during the latter’s visit to Headquarters EMC here on November 22, 2019

In his report, Lt. Gen. Santos underscores the NPA’s reduction with the surrender of 667 NPA Regulars, death of 56 fighters and arrest of 82 other NPA personalities from January 1, 2019, to November 20, 2019. Added to the numbers are the surrender of 967 Militia ng Bayan (MB) and the withdrawal of support by 4,191 members of the Underground Mass Organizations (UGMO).

Likewise, he reported that on the same period there were 993 firearns of various caliber and 232 International Humanitarial Law banned landmines were captured and surrendered.

Further, in his report, these figures translate to the destruction of at least six NPA formations and the clearing of 51 Barangays from NPA affectation in Eastern Mindanao.

On HADR, Lt. Gen Santos informed the transition of effort from Relief Operations to Early Recovery and Rehabilitation Phase, with the deployment of Engineering Battalions to configure the evacuation centers and the construction of temporary shelters in coordination and collaboration with the different Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils (LDRRMC).

In his response, Gen. Clement encouraged the Team EMC to work closely with other government instrumentalities relative to the implementation of Executive Order 70 and sustain the teamwork developed with partner agencies.

He further advised the Command to document and develop into template its actions, efforts, initiatives, and innovation during the calamity as part of its preparation for future calamities.

The visit ended with a talk with the personnel and a boodle fight.
