THE bicameral Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday confirmed the appointments of 33 ranking officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), led by Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, who was awarded the Medal of Valor.

Sobejana led the successful firefight in the late 80s against the extremist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) led by its late leader, Abdurajak Janjalani.

Sobejana also received other medals that capped his storied military career, according to Rep. Luis Ferrer 4th, chairman of the CA national defense committee.

Aside from Sobejana, the CA, during its plenary session presided by its concurrent chairman, Senate President Vicente Sotto 3rd, also confirmed Lt. Gen. Antonio Ramon Lim.

Based on the recommendation of Ferrer’s committee, the CA also confirmed the appointments of eight major generals, two rear admirals, 16 brigadier generals, two colonels, one captain and two commodores.

The eight major generals were Cornelio Valencia Jr., Dante Hidalgo, Reynaldo Aquino, Roberto Ancan, Divino Rey Pabayo Jr., Corleto Vinluan Jr., Tyne Banas and Diosdado Carreon.

Before the confirmation of the 33 military officers, the CA also elected Sen. Francis Pangilinan as its minority leader.

Representatives Alex “AA” Advincula and Rico Geron were elected as assistant minority leaders.
