Vice Mayor Amil Pangansayan said Mayor Haron Sabiwang had dispatched policemen and Marines to the village whose residents had been terrified by the atrocities committed by the group led by former barangay chairman Kalid Kalaing, reportedly a member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Molon Barangay Chairman Salik Adam said Kalaing’s group was responsible for the killing of 15-year-old Mojahid Sangayin who was waylaid by the suspects at the boundary of Molon and Barangay Ned Lake Sebu last month.

The group was also blamed for the attack on a detachment of militiamen in the village early this month.

Adam said the group, numbering at least 20, was also responsible for a spate of robberies and looting incidents in the village.

The village officials had asked the MILF-Coordinating Committee for the Cessation of Hostilities to defuse the tension in the area which had displaced hundreds of villagers.
