Ex-rebels identify 2 slain NPAs in DavSur clash

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 6, 2019): Ex-rebels identify 2 slain NPAs in DavSur clash

Former New People's Army (NPA) rebels, who are cooperating with the military, have helped identify the two slain insurgents during Friday's encounter with government troops in Digos City.

Col. Adonis Bajao, commander of the Army's 1002nd Infantry Brigade, said on Saturday the two slain rebels turned out to be a ranking officer and a commander of the communist Guerilla Front (GF) 51.

Bajo identified them as GF51 commander Roberto Castellote, and front secretary Lesly Pulido, whose unit was under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) operating within Davao del Sur.

Pulido and Castellote were killed in a firefight in Sitio Lanan, Barangay Goma, Digos City, Davao del Sur. Bajao said the troops were in the area to respond to the complaints of the farmers that the NPA insurgents were harassing them.

The 39th IB was the same unit that clashed with the rebels in the mountainous area of Sitio Latel, Barangay Colonsabak, Matanao, Davao del Sur on April 1. There was no reported casualty during that clash.

Maj. Gen Jose Faustino Jr, commander of Army's 10th Infantry Division, vowed that the troops will continue to conduct security operations after several communities and local government units in Davao del Sur declared the NPA as persona non grata.
