2 ranking NPA leaders in Davao killed in Digos clash

From the Manila Bulletin (Apr 6, 2019): 2 ranking NPA leaders in Davao killed in Digos clash

Security forces killed two leaders of the local New People’s Army (NPA) operating in the Davao region following a 45-minute clash in Digos City in Davao del Sur.

Col. Adonis Bajao, commander of the 1002nd Brigade, said the two slain rebels were abandoned by their comrades after the clash in Sitio Lanan, Barangay Goma on Friday morning.

He identified those killed as Lesly Pulido, alias Camille, secretary of the Guerilla Front 51; and, Roberto Castellote, alias Enoy, Commander of the guerilla unit of GF51.

“They were identified through a former rebel in the rogues’ gallery of the 39thInfantry Battalion,” said Bajao.

The official said the clash erupted when soldiers chanced upon the rebels based on the report of a group of farmers.

The military has initiated intensified attacks against the communist rebels after the peace talks were canceled last month. The operations come with localized peace talks.

The rebels, on the other hand, have also escalated the attacks against the government through ambushes.
