From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 26, 2019): Sayyaf 'bandit' killed, militiaman hurt in Basilan clash

A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed while a militiaman was wounded in a firefight in the hinterlands of Basilan province on Monday, a military official said.

Col. Fernando Reyeg, Joint Task Force Basilan commander, said the clash happened around 5:30 p.m. in Sampinit Complex, Barangay Masula, Isabela City.

Reyeg, who is also the Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade commander, said the troops were conducting security operation, in response to the reported presence of Abu Sayyaf bandits in Sampinit Complex, Barangay Masula,  when the clash took place.

He said the firefight lasted for about 15 minutes, resulted in the death of an Abu Sayyaf follower and injured a militiaman, after which the bandits fled leaving behind their dead comrade.

He said the troops are tracking down the bandits, who fled to different directions.
