More villages declaring CPP-NPA-NDF ‘persona non grata’

From the Manila Bulletin (Feb 22, 2019): More villages declaring CPP-NPA-NDF ‘persona non grata’

“Heed the people’s call, they are already tired of your coercion and intimidation”.

This was the message of Armed Forces of the Philippines-Eastern Mindanao Command (AFP-EastMinCom) Chief Maj. Gen. Felimon T. Santos Jr. to the leadership of the New People’s Army (NPA) after more and more communities and LGUs have declaring members of the rebel group “persona non grata” in their respective communities.

“The people believe in the government’s resolve to address their issues and concern and socio-economic changes that are being pushed and that they do not want this to be hampered and stalled,” Santos said.

His call was made after a new set of villages declared the CPP-NPA as persona non grata were Barangays Caburacanan, St. Peter, Silae and Indalasa of Malaybalay and Barangay Canangaan, Freedom and Dalacutan of Cabanglasan, all of Bukidnon Province. The declarations were made on February 20.

Davao Oriental has also barred the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines)-NPA-NDF (National Democratic Front), and declared its members and officials as undesirable in the whole province, after the Provincial Peace and Order Council passed a resolution on February 19.

On February 15, Surigao del Norte villages Camam-onan and Gigaquit, both known to be places where NPAs have thrived for the past years, banned the CPP-NPA-NDF from their villages by declaring them persona non grata.

Last January 25, Compostela Valley passed a resolution, condemning and declaring the CPP-NPA-NDF as persona non grata in the province.

In the same manner, 21 barangays in Malaybalay, Bukidnon and the Municipality of Sibagat, Agusan Sur declared the CPP and NPA members as persona non grata on October 23, 2018, and December 21, respectively.

“This is a good development which shows that the communities are prepared and willing to participate in the implementation of Executive Order 70, particularly on the implementation of the cultural, socio-economic programs of the government,” Santos said.

It was recalled that on 2014, the Municipality of Kapalong together with the Tribal Leaders courageously declared the CPP-NPA-NDF as persona non grata in the whole municipality including the Ancestral Domain under it which contributed to the stable peace and order in the area.
