From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 21): MILF member collared for gun possession in Maguindanao
Police arrested Friday an individual who claimed to be a member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) for illegal gun possession in Barangay Poblacion Dalican, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.
Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, director of Police Regional Office – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said that Pilot Panambulan, 34, of Barangay Bugawas, Datu Odin Sinsuat, was found carrying an improvised 12-gauge shotgun with five live cartridges.
Mijares said the suspect was onboard a motorbike (LA 75199) when flagged down around 11:30 a.m. at a police checkpoint in Poblacion Dalican and was showing signs of uneasiness.
“When checked, he voluntarily showed his sling bag with the firearm in it,” Mijares said in a report.
Panambutan claimed to be a member of the MILF but refused to answer queries as to why he was carrying a firearm. He was immediately brought to the Datu Odin Sinsuat police station for further investigation.
Charges for violation of R. A. 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act are being readied against him.
