DWDD: COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT | 5 CNTs surrender to 54IB in Nueva Viscaya

From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (May 9): COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT  |  5 CNTs surrender to 54IB in Nueva Viscaya

CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela (DWDD) – Five Nueva Viscaya based Communist NPA Terrorists – Militia ng Bayan surrendered to the joint elements of the 54th Infantry Battalion and Ambaguio Municipal Police Station at Landing Patrol Base, Brgy Poblacion, Ambaguio, Nueva Viscaya on May 7, 2018.

The surrender of the five MBs was made possible by the intervention of the Brgy Officials of Brgy Ammoweg, Ambaguio, Nueva Viscaya headed by Brgy Chairman Heraldo D Lino.

According to LTC Narciso B Nabulneg Jr, Commanding Officer, 54IB, the five MBs were serving as either contacts or courier of the Communist NPA Terrorist in their community. They also act as spies of the CNT’s in many instances about the presence of Government Forces and their civilian targets in Ambaguio area.

MGen Perfecto M Rimando Jr, Commander, 5th Infantry Division was elated with the surrender of the five MBs. “The MBs are critical in our crusade of clearing the countryside on the menace of the Communist NPA Terrorists. The Government is gaining every time MB is surrendering in our side, with that I commend the leadership of 54IB, Landing Patrol Base of 77IB, personnel of PNP Ambaguio and the Brgy Officials of Ammoweg. They spent time and effort during the negotiation leading to this positive result.” MGen Rimando Jr said.

“First, we reduced the capability and influence of the CNTs in the community where the MBs are residing; second, we were able to know their plans against our troops and the people; third, we were able to validate the identity of the CNTs operating in a certain area; and fourth, we are saving people and their families against the CNT’s indoctrination scheme.” MGen Rimando Jr, explained the importance of the surrendering MBs.

The five MBs are presently undergoing debriefing at the Landing Patrol Base as of press time.

Since Jan 1, 2018, the 5ID has recorded 70 CNT surrenderees to include seven regulars and 63 MBs in its area of responsibility. Among the seven regular is Ka Trese, the 16 y/o child warrior who were physically and emotionally abused by her comrades. 54IB / MCAG
