DWDD: ARSON INCIDENT | NPAs burns backhoe in Talaingod, DDN

From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Apr 4): ARSON INCIDENT  |  NPAs burns backhoe in Talaingod, DDN

TALAINGOD, Davao Del Norte (DWDD) Seven heavily-armed men believed to be members of the CPP-NPA terrorist group torched a backhoe at Sitio Gian, Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte yesterday, April 3, 2018.

The destroyed heavy equipment is owned by UBI Construction Company which is building a government road in the area. The estimated cost of actual damage was not immediately available, however, a certain Engineer Ferarin of UBI Construction Co. reported that seven armed men approached the construction workers in said project site and introduced themselves as CPP-NPA members before burning one unit of backhoe.
While the heavy equipment was still blazing, the armed group withdrew to the mountainous area of Talaingod.

Accordingly, the group is demanding revolutionary tax but the construction firm failed to give any.

Upon receipt of a report on the incident, the 56th Infantry Battalion, 1003rd Brigade, 10ID, PA immediately alerted one platoon for combat operation and monitored enemy activities in the area.

Between late evening on March 31 and early morning on April 1, 2018, the CPP-NPA terrorists burned a total of four dump trucks and four heavy road-building equipment in three arson attacks in the hinterlands of Davao City. This latest burning incident in Talaingod was the 79th arson attack nationwide, the 69th in Mindanao and the 63rd in eastern Mindanao that were either claimed by or blamed against the NPA since President Duterte assumed office at noon on June 30, 2018. Similarly, it was presumed to be the 7th arson case nationwide this year that was attributed to the CPP-NPA terrorists.

The said armed group withdrew to mountainous area of said sitio.

According to Colonel Ernesto C Torres Jr., Commander, 1003rd Infantry Brigade, with the burning of the said equipment, this Communist Terrorist are showing that:
  1. They are not revolutionaries as they claim to be. They are spoiled extortionists. “Ayaw mo kahadlok, mangayo mi gamay dili man sila mohatag.” (Do not be afraid, we were just asking for a small amount but they are not giving in). Those were the words of a group of communist terrorists before they burned a dump truck of UBI Construction Company in So Guian, Brgy Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao Del Norte today at 10.30am.
  2. UBI is concreting a road in Talaingod as part of the government’s project to improve the condition of the people in the area. The burning of the equipment may result in the delay of the completion of the project and hence, would delay the provision of better services to the people. It has also denied the indigenous people better chances for development.
  3. The long arm of justice would eventually catch up with these terrorists. We will relentlessly pursue them wherever they are hiding until they are exhausted, isolated and left with no choice but to surrender or face defeat against our troops.
  4. As we continue our operations in going after these terrorists, we call on everyone to denounce them and deny them safe stay in our communities. 1003IBDe / MCAG
