PNP to use 3-tiered defense system against terrorists

From the Philippine Information Agency (Aug 4): PNP to use 3-tiered defense system against terrorists

Capiz police director S/Supt. Samuel C. Nacion said that the policemen will maximize the use of available modern technologies in an effort to be a step ahead against lawless groups.

The move is in view of the target hardening initiatives that form part of the three – tiered defense system of the PNP against terrorism and other high profile criminalities.

“Hi-end Close Circuit Television Cameras and sophisticated communication equipment can provide real time information of what is happening in our environment,” Nacion said during a recent security briefing organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers, Inc. (CAGPIO) here.

“It is important that a staff will be assigned to monitor real-time surveillance of CCTV camera units’ for immediate reporting on what is happening in the surroundings towards a timely dispatch of policemen instead of just using the technology as a recording and reviewing device,” he stressed.

The PNP’s target hardening initiatives also include the mobilization of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams, strategic police patrol deployment and organization of community – based anti-lawlessness groups.

These initiatives are being complemented by intelligence effort like strengthening of Barangay Intelligence Networks and enhancing incident management capability particularly on bomb detection, response and detonation, among others.
