From the Philippine News Agency (May 17): President Duterte: Offer for safe homecoming of CPP's Joma still stands
The offer for the safe homecoming of Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding leader Jose Maria Sison still stands.
This was emphasized by President Rodrigo Duterte yesterday as the new round of peace negotiations between the Philippine Government and the CPP’s political wing, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), is set to take place on May 27 to June 1 in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
”My offer to Sison stands. He can come here in peace. I will guarantee his safety,” said Duterte, adding that he would even "underwrite for Joma’s hospitalization."
”Hindi ko siya aarestuhin (I will not arrest him),” Duterte said..
It may be recalled that last April, the President offered Sison to come home, citing his serious medical condition. Sison, Duterte’s former professor, has been in exile in The Netherlands since 1987.
”Pag ang tao may sakit (If a person is sick)…it's not good to be oppressive, kulung-kulungin mo pa…ipagamot mo na lang (why confine him if you can give him a medical treatment),” Duterte said.
”We do not fight people who are helpless, not healthy anymore. It ain't that way, it's not,” he stressed.
