From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 3): Ranking NPA operative bagged in La Union operations
Trooper from the 81st Infantry Battalion along with their police counterparts have successfully arrested a ranking New People's Army (NPA) operative during operations in Sto. Tomas, La Union Sunday afternoon.
Lt. Col. Eugenio Julio Osias, 81st Infantry Battalion commander, identified the arrested rebel as Johnny Obena, alias "Rodat" and a logistics officer and member of Squad Dos, Platoon South Ilocos Sur.
The former was arrested around 4 p.m. Upon Obena's arrest, he was immediately transferred to Sto. Tomas Municipal Police Station prior to his transfer to Ilocos Sur Police Public Safety Company.
Authorities said Obena was among the ranking NPA operatives in the Ilocos Sur area.
The latter has five standing warrants of arrest for frustrated murders and attempted murders issued by Judge Policarpio P. Martinez of Branch 71 of Regional Trial Court, First Judicial Region in Candon City on 2013.
