NPA’s bomb shop uncovered in Masbate

From the Manila Bulletin (Apr 20): NPA’s bomb shop uncovered in Masbate

The military has uncovered a bomb workshop of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay San Antonio, Milagros, Masbate recently.

Lt. Col. Redentor E. Cabanizas, commander of the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the army’s 9th Infantry Division, said the bomb facility of the NPA was found last Saturday during clearing operations after a gun battle with the rebels in the area.

Cabanizas reported to the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) that the facility has the capacity to produce hundreds of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), including landmines.

He said the NPA’s use of landmines is a clear violation of the Ottawa Convention (Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention), prohibiting any group from using anti-personnel mines or bombs that cause death and injury of people.
