From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 26): Grenade explosion kills 4, injures 15 in Jolo

Four people were killed while 15 others were wounded in a grenade explosion late Saturday in downtown Jolo, the capital of Sulu.

Col. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, said the incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. Saturday at Katrina Bakeshop and Grocery in Sitio Lambayong, Barangay Busbus, Jolo.

Two were instantly killed when a grenade was tossed into the bakery. Two others expired while undergoing medical treatment in the hospital.

The 15 wounded victims were also rushed to the hospital.

"A suspect was arrested and now in the custody of Jolo Municipal Police Station. Motive is still under unknown," Sobejana said.

The police said the possible motive was retaliation to a shooting incident on Friday that injured a child in Jolo.

Police said the suspected grenade thrower is relative of the child.
