From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 3): DBM proposes further hikes in police, military personnel pay
Regular compensation of Philippines’ police and military personnel was proposed to increase by about 20.04 percent this 2017.
Data released by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Monday showed that annual base pay for police officer 1 was recommended to be hiked to PHP226,644 this year from PHP178,008 in 2016.
On a monthly basis, the base pay should be PHP18,887, up from PHP14,834 as of 2016.
Their hazard pay is proposed to be hiked to PHP6,480 from PHP4,680 in 2016 and the provisional allowance to PHP8,400 from PHP4,104.
With these proposed changes, total annual compensation of police officer 1 is seen to rise by 33.3 percent to PHP473,625 in 2017 from PHP355,290 in 2016.
For military personnel, their annual base pay was recommended to increase to PHP226,644 this year from 2016’s PHP178,008.
Hazard pay was proposed to be hiked to PHP6,480 from PHP4,680 and the provisional allowance to PHP8,400 from the current PHP4,104.
These adjustments will increase their base pay by 20.04 percent as against the 2.21 percent year-on-year increase in 2015.
Collateral entitlements of military personnel was proposed to be increased to PHP36,000 from the current PHP16,000 for the combat duty pay and to PHP36,000 from PHP24,000 from 18,000 for combat incentive pay.
With the adjustments, annual pay of military personnel was proposed to increase by 27.2 percent to PHP436,138 this year from PHP342,963 as of 2016.
These proposed increases are on top of the hike under Executive Order (EO) No. 3, which took effect on Sept. 1, 2016.
DBM, in a statement, however, stressed that these adjustments will only be in place upon the approval of the joint resolution that has been submitted to the Office of the President (OP).
President Rodrigo R. Duterte has vowed to further support the welfare of the police and military personnel who protect the citizens against threats to national security and peace and order.
