From ABS-CBN (Dec 18): Vendor wounded in Basilan IED explosion
BASILAN - An 18-year-old vendor was wounded after an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in the village of Sabong, Lamitan City Sunday afternoon.
Chief Inspector Allan Benasing, Lamitan City Police deputy chief, identified the victim as Arsida Asdali, a resident of Sabong.
Asdali was working on their farm when she heard a loud explosion just a few meters away from her location. She sustained minor injuries on her feet and head.
The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to Benasing, the explosive was planted by members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), targeting vehicles and soldiers frequently patrolling the area.
Lamitan City Vice Mayor Roderick Furigay also said they received information that the explosion may be connected to rido, or a feud between families living in the area.
However, he also said they are not discounting the possibility that the bomb was planted by the ASG to sow fear among residents of Lamitan.
The Explosive Ordinance Division of the Philippine Army has recovered some debris of the bomb, including some shrapnel of an unidentified ordnance.
