Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen.
Ricardo Visaya lauded officers and enlisted personnel of the Sulu-based 35th
Infantry Battalion for their swift rescue of businesswoman Martina Yee from the
clutches of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) on Wednesday.
"Let me commend all the troops for a well-coordinated
and incessant two-day rescue operation that led to the successful rescue of
Martina Lyn Yee who was kidnapped in Sirawai, Zamboanga Del Norte (3 p.m. of
Sept. 19). As your chief-of-staff, I am truly proud of this accomplishment,
noting that this is the first time that we have intercepted the ASG while they
are still enroute to their hiding place," he added.
Yee was recovered by government troops at a pier in Tanjung,
Barangay Kajatian, Indanan, Sulu.
This took place after strike-and-rescue operation of 35th
Infantry Battalion which made the terrorists scamper, resulting in the rescue
of the 60-year-old victim.
