Strong rains foil attempts to reach helicopter crash site in Quezon

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 25): Strong rains foil attempts to reach helicopter crash site in Quezon

Strong rains have foiled attempts of the 48th Infantry Battalion to reach the site of the crashed private helicopter in Gen. Nakar, Quezon Thursday.

Lt. Col. Ramil Anoyo, 48th Infantry Battalion commander, said the 7:40 a.m. attempt to land four troopers at Barangay Umiray crash site of the helicopter (RPC-2668) failed due to inclement weather.

The second attempt, which took place noontime, also failed due to bad weather.

An Air Force search-and-rescue W-3A "Sokol" helicopter spotted the crash site 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Only the tail boom of the civilian helicopter was spotted.

Owned and operated by the air transport provider Macro Asia, the missing helicopter took off from Barangay Bigte in Norzagaray, Bulacan for Sitio Sumag, Barangay Umiray at noon Monday to pick up rescue teams earlier deployed for search-and-recovery operations for workers believed to have been lost during a flash flood at the Sumag Tunnel, Gen. Nakar last Aug. 13.

The tunnel flooding that occurred at the height of heavy monsoon rains last week, resulted to the death of six construction workers and the rescue of a lone survivor.
