Five people were wounded when a grenade exploded on Thursday
afternoon in Davao City , the President’s hometown in southern Philippines ,
officials said.
Officials said the blast occurred in the village of Lamanan
in Calinan district and police said fragments of an MK2 grenade were recovered
from the scene.
Two men riding tandem on a motorcycle lobbed the grenade on a
passing government vehicle and fled before it exploded.
No individual claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mayor Sarah Carpio has ordered police authorities to
investigate the motive of the blast and the perpetrators.
“I have already ordered Police Supt. Michael John Dubria, of
the Davao City Police Office, to conduct a thorough probe into the grenade
blast in Calinan that injured 5 civilians Thursday afternoon. Rest assured, the
police are on top of this isolated incident.”
“And we reassure everybody that there is no reason to worry
about the security in Davao
City . This is purely
isolated,” Carpio, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, said.
Photos taken from the scene showed a woman lying on the road
with blood oozing from her head. And four other men also lay wounded from
shrapnel wounds near a tricycle just across the market while policemen help
them.
