NPA claim assassination of Negros Occidental town councilor

From InterAksyon (Jun 29): NPA claim assassination of Negros Occidental town councilor

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines -- A reelected councilor of Isabela town in Negros Occidental province was gunned down Wednesday afternoon and communist rebels quickly owned responsibility for the killing.

Acting provincial police director Senior Superintendent William Senoron confirmed in a radio interview that Councilor Crispin Posadas Jr. was shot by three gunmen near the town market around 5 p.m.

He said Posadas, who frequented the area to place bets on the numbers game lotto, had just gotten off his motorcycle when the killers struck. The gunmen then commandeered a tricycle and fled, abandoning the vehicle and its driver in Barangay Maytubig, Senoron said.

Less than two hours after the killing, the New People’s Army’s Leonardo Panaligan Command, which operates in central Negros, confirmed that it had “meted the death penalty on Isabela (Councilor) Dodoy Posadas.”

Ka Ann Jacinto, who relayed the message from the rebel command, accused Posadas of being an “active military intelligence” asset who was also allegedly engaged in illegal activities.

  1. Let's call this what it is, another murder of an unarmed civilian noncombatant.
