The US Embassy in Manila turned over on Tuesday a P16.9 million-worth police barracks for counter-terrorism training in the provincial headquarter in Sulu.

The US Pacific Command’s (Pacom) Joint Interagency Task Force West started construction of the building inside Camp Kasim early in 2015. It was completed the other week.

The embassy in a statement said the building would serve as barracks for police officers who are receiving US-sponsored training at Camp Kasim, a police headquarter named after Sr. Supt. Julasirim Kasim who died in gun battle against the Abu Sayyaf Group in 2009.

The ground floor of the new barracks has a conference room, International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance training office, and two private offices, while the top floor consists of both male and female barracks areas.

The barracks can support 36 police officers on training.
