THE EASTERN Mindanao Command is mourning the death of Maj. Hector Dongail who was previously reported missing during a proficiency dive at Angels Cove, Talikud Island in Samal last April 16.
 
Maj. Ezra Balagtey, spokesperson of EastMinCom, said the cadaver was retrieved by technical divers on Saturday noon after almost a week of search.
 
“On behalf of the officers, men and employees together with the family, we thank everyone for your support and prayers,” Balagtey said.
 
The cadaver was brought to Naval Felix Station in Camp Panacan.
 
Dongail hailed from Besao Mountain Province who was assigned to EastMinCom headquarters.
 
According to the report, the office received report about one soldier missing out of the 10 who participated in the proficiency diver’s training at 8:30 a.m. on April 16.
 
A team from Philippine Coast Guard and Naval Special Operations Unit was deployed to find the soldier. The Philippine Air Force also sent air assets to help in the search along the shorelines of Talikud and Davao del Sur area.
 
The incident management team was activated to oversee the search for the missing officer.
 
The team was headed by Brig. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista, deputy of EastMinCom with search and rescue teams from Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao, Tactical Operations Group XI of Philippine Airforce, Philippine Coast Guard and Task force Davao.
