Militiaman killed, another hurt in NPA Albay attack

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 16): Militiaman killed, another hurt in NPA Albay attack

A member of the CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) was killed while another was hurt when five New People's Army (NPA) rebels opened fire at a squad of the 2nd Infantry Battalion in Libon town, Albay Friday evening.

The incident took place 6 p.m. at Barangay Malabiga, of the above-mentioned locality.

Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) spokesperson Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman identified the slain militiaman as Gilbert E. Delos Reyes.

His remains was taken to St. Peter's Chapel in Legazpi City, Albay while his wounded companion, Michael J. Ramirez is now undergoing treatment at 9th Infantry Division Station Hospital in Pili, Camarines Sur.

Guzman said SOLCOM strongly denounces the attack. The squad was on a mission of securing the construction of a farm-to-market road in the barangay.

"The attack delays the opportunities and benefits for the barangay," he added.

"Our unit there has intensified its security measures so that the construction can resume early," Guzman said.
