THREE NPA members brought along their firearms as they surrendered to different units of the 10th Infantry Division in Compostela Valley and Cotabato on Thursday.
Capt. Rhyan Batchar, spokesperson of 10th ID, said alias Roy, 38, a member of Guerilla Front 27 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committe (SMRC) surrendered to 71st Infantry Battalion with a Garand rifle at Barangay New Visayas, Mawab, Compostela Valleyon Sunday.
Alias Jef and Noel, who are both members of Guerilla Front 53, SMRC brought two Armalite rifles to the troops of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion in Barangay Batobato, President Roxas, Cotabato province on Thursday.
The former rebels brought along with them a caliber .30 M1 Garand rifle and two M16 Armalite rifles.
Their real names are being withheld for their personal security.
Maj. Gen. Rafael Valencia, the division commander, commended the troops of 71st Infantry Battalion and 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion for their accomplishments.
“We hope that other NPA members will soon realize how futile the armed struggle is and that Filipinos ought to live in a democracy, free of violence,” he said.
