A New People's Army (NPA) fighter was killed during an
encounter with troopers of the 401st Infantry Brigade in Jabonga town, Agusan
Del Norte Sunday afternoon.
Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez, 4th Infantry Division public
affairs office chief, said the clash took place 3:30 p.m. at Barangay Bangonay.
No losses were incurred by the 401st Infantry Brigade.
Government troops recovered an AK-47 automatic rifle in the
encounter site.
The fighting stemmed ongoing pursuit operations against the
NPAs who were earlier encountered in the outskirts of Jabonga and Kitcharao
towns.
Major Gen. Benjamin R. Madrigal, 4th Infantry Division
commander, lauded the troops who have been very successful in tracking down the
NPA remnants’ location.
“I congratulate our gallant soldiers who fought bravely and
are fully motivated in accomplishing their mission. I also thank the concerned
civilians who are giving timely and relevant information about the NPA’s
location and activities," he added.
The body of the slain NPA was immediately turned over to the
local officials and PNP for identification and burial.
