NPA suspects kill retired soldier

From the Visayan Daily Star (Mar 29): NPA suspects kill retired soldier

Four suspected New People's Army assassins struck yesterday and killed a former member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Brgy. Guinpana-an,Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

The victim identified by the Moises Padilla police as Armando Secuya, 61, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. He was shot at close range, by two of the four unidentified suspects, who carried . 45 caliber pistols, Police Office 1 Erald Gesu-an, case investigator, said last night.

Secuya, who used to be a member of the AFP, is the husband of Guinpana-an kagawad Emmy Secuya.

Investigations of the Moises Padilla police showed that Secuya was standing at a waiting shed at Purok 3 in the barangay, when he was confronted by two of the four suspects, at about 3:15 p.m. yesterday.

Without any provocation, the two gunmen took turns in shooting Secuya, while two others acted as look-outs.

Testimonies of witnesses showed that while fleeing from the crime scene, the suspects shouted “Mabuhay ang NPA”.

Moises Padilla policemen, who responded to the crime scene, recovered 17 spent shells, three live ammunition and two deformed slugs of a .45 caliber pistol.

Based on accounts of witnesses, Gesu-an described the suspects to be in their early 30s, dark-skinned and strangers to the place.

The New People's Army is marking its 47th founding anniversary today.

Both the police and military personnel assigned in Negros Occidental have been placed on red alert status, in anticipation of NPA terroristic activities, usually being conducted on or before their anniversary, as shown in Army records in the past years.
