From the Mindanao Examiner (Feb 20): Sayyaf kills MNLF man in Southern Philippines
Abu Sayyaf gunmen killed a follower of Nur Misuari, chieftain of the larger Moro National Liberation Front, in a clash that erupted in the southern Filipino town of Indanan.
Gaber Majang, who was a former army soldier, was fatally shot on Friday after Abu Sayyaf fighters led by Sibih Pisih, launched the attack in the village of Buanza. Pisih’s group also torched several houses in the area before fleeing the fighting.
The raid occurred after one of Pisih’s followers Abu Quodama was killed in a clash with Majang’s group earlier this month and sparking sporadic firefight between the two groups. Pisih also suspected Majang’s group of tipping the military about the Abu Sayyaf in the town.
There were also reports that Pisih was trying to lure MNLF members to abandon Misuari and join the Abu Sayyaf in pursuing an independent Islamic state.
There was no immediate statement from Misuari or security officials about the latest clashes between the two groups.
