The provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte  through Governor Roberto Y. Uy has provided livelihood projects to Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebel returnees recently in the municipalities of Sirawai and Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte which gave way to peace in the area.

“Sirawai is now a peaceful municipality because of the interventions by the provincial government giving developmental projects like livelihood to the MNLF members,” Sirawai Mayor Gamar A. Janihim said when asked about the peace and order situation in his municipality.

There were four beneficiaries under this project, namely, the Al Hadaya Farmers and Fisherfolks Association, Balubuan Farmers and Fishermen Association, NASCOM Outer- V Group and the MNLF members.

Among the livelihood assistance given to the beneficiaries were mudboat and thresher, cattle and carabao dispersals, breeder goats and abaca suckers.

MNLF State Chairman in ZN Hadji Asberin N. Kahaluddin based in Panganuran, Sibuco stressed that the said project is really a big help to its members.

MNLF groups from Sirawai under MNLF commanders, Bolling Montong and Sawad Janihim, also received livelihood assistance from the provincial government.

Montong expressed his gratitude for the four cows, including the rice thresher and mudboat that his group received. These were in addition to the fishing boat and fishing equipment they received last year from the government.

Meanwhile, Sawad Janihim of NASCOM-2 Outer 5 of MNLF based in Piakan, Sirawai also expressed his appreciation for the livelihood projects granted to them.

Among those present during the turn-over ceremonies were Governor Roberto Y. Uy, Vice Governor Senen O. Angeles, 3rd District Representative Isagani S. Amatong, and 3rd Dist. Board Members Dr. Ruth M. Brillantes, Venus Uy and Luzviminda Torrino.
