From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 11): Former rebel receives livelihood assistance from government

A former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Negros Oriental has received livelihood assistance from the government under the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP).

The former rebel, known as “Kurt”, who surrendered last December 7, received P65,000.00 as an immediate assistance and livelihood assistance under the CLIP during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) on Tuesday held at the Old Session Hall, Provincial Capitol in Dumaguete City.

The check was handed over by Atty. Richard Enojo, Provincial Administrator, to the former rebel and witnessed by other members of the council, a media release from the 79th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army said.

The government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office will monitor the status and development of the livelihood assistance given to him.

The beneficiary personally thanked the provincial government and the 79th Infantry (Masaligan) Battalion for the assistance extended to him.

Lieutenant Colonel Roderick T Garcia, commanding officer of 79IB, urged the active NPA members to lay down their arms and join the mainstream society as the CLIP of the government awaits them, the news release said.
