The government troops are directed to stay focus on their
mission in pursuing the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands in Sulu province.
Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander,
issued the order on Friday after suspected ASG brigands have detonated an
improvised explosive device (IED) in Jolo, the province’ capital town.
Arrojado said the improvised bomb explosion occurred around
7:35 p.m. Thursday inside a videoke bar in Sitio Basabasa, Barangay Bus-Bus,
Jolo.
Arrojado said no one was either killed or injured during the
explosion at the videoke bar owned by former Vice Mayor Mijan Hasim of Talipao,
Sulul.
The videoke bar is located adjacent to the Gate 1 of Camp
General Teodulfo Bautista, which houses the Joint Task Group Sulu headquarters.
Arrojado said two unidentified motorcycle-riding customers
were seen to have entered the establishment prior to the explosion.
He said they left 30 minutes later and “subsequently and IED
exploded.”
He said the responding troops have recovered from the blast
site parts of cellular phone believed to be the triggering device, wires and
explosive particles.
He said the incident could be part of the diversionary
effort by the ASG brigands to confuse and misled the troops “especially now
that the operating troops are closing in on the known ASG lairs.”
The government forces are continuously tracking down the ASG
brigands in Sulu aimed to neutralize the group.
