Military personnel urged to remain apolitical in 2016 polls

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 7): Military personnel urged to remain apolitical in 2016 polls

With the May 2016 elections just a few months away, Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Voltaire Gazmin urged all officers and enlisted personnel to remain apolitical.

"2016 will bring forth new challenges, and we will continue to meet these challenges. As guardians of democracy, we must remain apolitical and dedicated to our mandate, as it is the price we pay for our sworn duty," he said in New Year's call message.

And in the same vein, Gazmin said he will do everything in his authority to complete military modernization projects started during the Aquino administration.

Aside from this, efforts are also underway to defeat the remaining security threats as part of Internal Peace and Security Plan "Bayanihan".

The DND chief said all of these are possible, despite the short time remaining, with joint collaboration and total commitment from all stakeholders.
