Reopening investigation on the Mamasapano encounter in
Maguindanao would “open the already healed wound,” an official of the Moro
Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on Thursday said.
Ghadzali Jaafar, MILF vice chair for political affairs, said
the MILF sees the reopening of the probe as an “investigation in aid of
legislation.”
“It’s already election season, so reopening it is an
opportunity for candidates to grand stand,” Jaafar said in Filipino in a radio
interview.
“We consider the very unfortunate Mamasapano incident
closed,” Jaafar added.
He said now is the time to move on, learn the lesson and
prevent similar incident in the future.
At least 65 persons were killed, 44 were police special
unit, 17 MILF fighters and the rest were outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom
Fighters (BIFF)

“WHILE WE OPPOSED, WE KNOW THE GOVERNMENT CAN DO WHAT IT
WANTS,” THE MILF POLITICAL CHIEF SAID.
“IF MILF LEADERS ARE INVITED, IT WILL BE DECIDED UPON BY THE
CENTRAL COMMITTEE. SO FAR, NO INVITATION YET,” HE SAID, ADDING THE GOVERNMENT
HAD ITS OWN PROBE WHILE THE MILF MADE ITS OWN AND SUBMITTED TO THE GOVERNMENT
PANEL ITS FINDINGS.
AS TO THE MILF MEMBERS IDENTIFIED AND CHARGED BY THE
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE IN THE CARNAGE, JAAFAR SAID THE MILF HAS ITS OWN WAY OF
PUNISHING THOSE RESPONSIBLE.
“WE HAVE INTERNAL MECHANISM IN PUNISHING OUR MEMBERS WHO
NEED TO BE PUNISHED AS A RESULT OF THE MAMASAPANO INCIDENT,” HE SAID.
